"Winning this race" doesn't even really make sense (and it's a fundamental error that a lot of people made in thinking about Tesla, hence the silly valuation). They're just cars. There always have been and always will be a bunch of car manufacturers.

People get very excited about BYD drawing ahead of Tesla in Europe, but VW AG still sells more BEVs in Europe than either. (This is of course a less interesting media narrative in that VW has been around forever, so it tends to be framed as a Tesla vs BYD thing, but really this is a bit silly.
