Putting the date is often a good affordance to help people scanning the headlines know if they have seen this one before. It is not, necessarily, meant as a knock against it.

		Especially with academic papers where publish dates are often not easy to find in a super-quick skim. (there's a copyright 2007 at the bottom of the linked page, which isn't explicitly "published in 2007" in my mind)
