I thought there was another big discussion on it, but I'm not finding it. The rest seem to have no comments or just one. Maybe I'm remembering the book's submissions rather than this retrospective submission.

This reminds me of something a respected peer said to me years ago:

  Given enough time, every language will become a LISP.
The path each takes is different, and some may take decades to get there, but this has largely held true unless the language is effectively abandoned in a working state.
