I think you are conflating the concept of "education" and the US DoE. The U.S. spends more per pupil than any other nation. In fact, schools such as Baltimore public schools receive more funding than any other and have atrocious outcomes. This would be like saying someone being against a "Ministry of Truth" is someone that wants propaganda because "truth" is in the name.
