		Ahh, I get the joke now. Good one :) As for the reason, if I have to guess, is because "decibel" looks better than "decibell". (Keep in mind decibel was actually renamed from the previous unit called "Transmission Unit" and was meant to be used as the main unit even at the beginning. "bel" was simply derived/implied from it, not the other way around).
