I dislike the school administration and the advisors. The senior faculty here seems disinterested in science and research, and are basically glorified project managers. What are some thoughts from others who’ve been through a similar experience?

It's the same here. Just how it is, I guess. It's all me, either I research, implement AND write or nothing happens. Just be aware that a PhD isn't worth much to begin with, so if you're unhappy, consider your options. I'm relatively free to do what I like, so I stay.. for now.

I think most PhD programs have the option to leave with a Master's degree after a certain amount of progress. Do you have that option?
